A postpartum doula is a trained, non-medical professional who provides practical, confidential,
non-judgemental, physical and emotional support to a family following a birth or adoption. Postpartum
doulas serve as an extra set of well-trained, trustworthy, helping hands available to assist the entire
family in their home during the postpartum period. A postpartum doula's goal is to work her/himself
out of a job by encouraging and supporting parents' efforts to increase their knowledge, confidence,
and family harmony.
