A postpartum doula is a trained, non-medical professional who provides practical, confidential,
non-judgemental, physical and emotional support to a family following a birth or adoption. Postpartum
doulas serve as an extra set of well-trained, trustworthy, helping hands available to assist the entire
family in their home during the postpartum period. A postpartum doula's goal is to work her/himself
out of a job by encouraging and supporting parents' efforts to increase their knowledge, confidence,
and family harmony. Presently accepting Clients for late Winter and Spring 2012 and beyond.
Postpartum Doula Services
Who can use a postpartum doula? Anyone who wants to!
The unconditional, non-judgmental support of a postpartum doula can benefit any parent. Additionally,
individuals who live far from extended family or close friends will find a postpartum doula to be a
strong source of practical, physical and emotional support when loved-ones cannot be physically
near. Factors influencing your decision to work with a postpartum doula may include:
Services Included in Postpartum Support: Household organization; meal preparation; family errands;
newborn and/or sibling care; infant development education; lactation management and referral;
parental expectation and stress management; sibling adjustment and inclusion; sleep facilitation;
monitoring of postpartum mood; and assistance with long-term child care planning and placement.
Postpartum Support Scheduling: Postpartum doula services can span hours, days, weeks, or
months. Schedules are based on family needs and doula availability. If I am not available at your
desired time of day, please contact an alternate provider. Contracts expire twelve weeks after birth.
Visit common support schedules for scheduling options.
Rates & Billing Policies: Holistic Helping Hand's postpartum support pricing is competitive with other
providers in the area. Postpartum support expenditures may be tax deductible for some families. If you
are a single parent, or household experiencing financial hardship, please contact me about receiving
a discounted rate. Visit postpartum doula rates for more information on rates and billing policies.
