Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Founded in 1983, the American SIDS Institute, a national nonprofit health care organization, is
dedicated to the prevention of sudden infant death and the promotion of infant health through an
aggressive, comprehensive nationwide program of: Research about both the cause of sudden infant
death and methods of prevention; Clinical Services assisting pediatricians in the medical
management of high risk infants; Education about prevention methods aimed at the public and
medical community; Family Support providing crises phone counseling, grief literature and referrals.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) prevention is a multifaceted strategy, and this organization is
committed to all avenues.  We support public health strategies and education that target both high-risk
populations and the public in general.  In addition, we are committed to the support of research and
clinical care of patients with problems of respiration and sleep.

National Sudden and Unexpected Infant/Child Death and Pregnancy Loss Resource Center
National SIDS/Infant Death Resource Center (NSIDRC) provides information services and technical
assistance on sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and related topics. Our goal is to promote
understanding of SIDS and provide comfort to those affected by SIDS through information sharing.
